Martial Arts Classes & Services
Lil YAMA's Programme (age 4-7 years)
Building confident, disciplined and respectful young people through martial arts education.
Our Lil YAMA's Programme introduces children aged 4–7 to martial arts through structured, engaging and age-appropriate lessons.
Students begin learning the foundations of our Freestyle Martial Arts syllabus, studying techniques and principles from established disciplines including Taekwondo, Karate, Boxing and Jujitsu. Lessons are carefully adapted for younger students, allowing children to develop coordination, balance, movement, martial arts technique and practical self-defence skills in a safe and supportive learning environment.
But becoming a martial artist at YAMA is about much more than learning physical techniques.
From their very first grade, our Lil YAMA's are introduced to the Black Belt principles of Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, Humility and Indomitable Spirit. We encourage students to understand these principles and, importantly, begin putting them into practice at the academy, at home and at school.
What Will Your Child Learn?
1. Martial Arts Foundations
Students are introduced to age-appropriate striking, movement, defensive techniques and practical applications drawn from Taekwondo, Karate, Boxing and Jujitsu. As their understanding and ability develop, they progressively work towards the technical requirements of their next grade.
2. Personal Safety & Self-Defence
Our scenario-based self-defence curriculum helps children understand personal safety in situations they may encounter in everyday life. Alongside physical skills, we teach children the importance of awareness, confidence, appropriate decision-making and knowing when and how to seek help from a trusted adult.
3. Discipline, Respect & Responsibility
Martial arts education extends beyond our lessons. Students are encouraged to demonstrate positive behaviour and take greater responsibility at home and at school, helping them understand that progressing towards Black Belt requires character as well as physical ability.
4. Focus & Concentration
Through structured drills, partner exercises and age-appropriate learning activities, children practise listening, following instructions and maintaining concentration. These are skills we want students to carry beyond the academy and into their education and everyday lives.
5. Confidence Through Achievement
Our progressive grading syllabus gives children clear goals to work towards. As students learn new skills, overcome challenges and successfully progress through their grades, they experience the confidence that comes from effort, perseverance and genuine achievement.
More Than Martial Arts Lessons
A key part of the YAMA curriculum is helping children understand that the qualities of a Black Belt should be demonstrated outside the academy too.
As part of their progression, students complete age-appropriate personal development tasks at home and at school, encouraging positive habits such as completing homework, keeping their room tidy, helping at home, showing respect, listening to parents and teachers and taking responsibility for their behaviour.
These aren't simply additional activities — they form part of our approach to developing the discipline, dedication and character expected of a YAMA student.
Learning Should Still Be Fun!
Our Lil YAMA's lessons are energetic, positive and engaging. We believe young children learn best when they enjoy what they're doing, so our instructors use games, challenges and interactive activities alongside structured martial arts tuition.
The result is a programme children look forward to attending, while parents can see the confidence, discipline, focus and martial arts ability they're developing along the way.
At YAMA, we're not simply teaching children martial arts techniques.
We're beginning their journey towards becoming confident, disciplined and respectful young martial artists — and giving them skills and values that can benefit them far beyond the training floor.
